Natural Pill Pockets/Herbal "Treats"

 Natural pill pockets

  • Chicken hearts
  • Cottage cheese
  • Cheese
  • Liverwurst
  • Canned Tripe Tripett Canned Tripe recommended by Daisy & Bella's nutritionist/herbalist... I put about 1 tablespoon with Bella's herbs (she's very very picky) and am giving in the morning as a "snack" so she won't associate herbs with food and to give her the rest of the day to let any tummy issues resolve before bed πŸΎπŸ’•

Ø  Beef Gelatin… great for tummy and a great every day addition especially if you aren’t giving bone broth. Here’s two recipes one for pill pockets and a “Tummy Gummy” that can help the tummy.

“Gelatin contains glutamic acid, which the body can form into glutamine. This substance may help promote a healthy mucosal lining in the stomach and aid digestion.”

Use whatever you have for molds, ramekins, small cupcake tins, small bowls, ice trays, etc.

“Grease” the mold with coconut oil to help the gelatin release after setting, you can also run under warm water to help release.

  •  Gelatin Jiggler - Makes an excellent pill pouch
    • Yield depends on size of mold
    • Mix 1 tablespoon of gelatin in
    • ½ cup dog safe broth or organic decaf tea (camomile, lemon balm, green tea)
    • Pour/spoon into mold
    • Refrigerate for 2-3 hours
  • Tummy Gummies
    • 4 tbs Gelatin powder (Double the amount of gelatin if using fresh ginger.)
    • 1 tablespoon slippery elm powder or marshmallow root powder
    • ½ teaspoon dried ginger (or 1 teaspoon fresh ginger)
    • Optional: 1 tablespoon activated charcoal powder (excellent for pets with diarrhea)
    • Optional: 1 probiotic capsule or ⅛ cup plain kefir
    • 2 cups hot broth
    • Optional: 1 teaspoon Manuka honey or royal jelly
    • Optional: 1 tablespoon inner leaf aloe juice
    • Combine all dry ingredients (except probiotic capsule) in a large bowl.
      • Carefully whisk in hot broth to dissolve all powders.
      • Decrease the amount of liquid you use by equal amount of optional liquids used (kefir, honey, jelly, aloe juice).
    • Let cool and add probiotics (removing the capsule), honey, jelly, juice, kefir, if using.
    • Stir to fully combine.
    • Refrigerate 3 hours to allow the gelatin to set.

Herbal “treat” using beef gelatin…easy to make
  • This would be good if they decide they don’t want supplements anymore, or even to start giving before they reach the point of not wanting to eat food because of supplements (which usually happens to all our boys at some point 😒)
  • I put Daisy’s 4 supplements (no where near what Roscoe was getting but you can easily scale up the size or make multiple “treats” to cover all supplements needed) into approx 1/8 cup of turkey broth and wisked to mix throughly. Then added 1 tbs beef gelatin and wisked throughly again.  Then pour into mold that will hold all the mixture and refrigerate for 3 hours.  Remove herbal treat from mold and place in food or give before eating (since most supplements should be given with food).
  • I also made little tummy πŸ°πŸ¦‹ gummies with kefir and ginger to add to her bowl with each meal.
Bell's Supplement Treat (for picky eaters who won't eat their food if it has supplements in it)
