Natural Pain Relivers

"Gabapentin is a drug is indicated for neuropathic pain and to treat epileptic seizures. It is also used in dogs for non-neuropathic pain, although it's not that effective for those kinds of pain, such as dog might experience with osteoarthritis.

Gabapentin is also sedating, and when combined with other sedating or calming drugs or herbs, can cause increased sedation.

My concern about gabapentin is that it is not working for the pain as much as we would want, but due to its sedating nature, your dog may not be complaining as much. We might be under-medicating their pain.

Pain management is the first thing you want to do for your pet. Pets are very "stoic" about their pain. It can be hard to tell easily that your pet is actually experiencing pain. It's better to assume they are painful and to treat them. Often, once they are treated, their behavior will often change for the better when their pain is relieved."
