πΎπ A Box of "Chocolates" ππΎ
Supplies and Ingredients
- Silicone candy mold (or any small container will work)
- Candy
- Organic beef gelatin (can also be used for many other treats and supplements)
- 1 cup dog safe broth or decaffeinated green tea, or to help tummies, camomile and/or lemon balm tea, or any combo
- Coloring
- 100% organic Carob (this is the dog safe "chocolate") gives a dark chocolate color
- Lions Mane mushroom powder gives a blonde-ish color
- Other mushroom powders can give varing shades of chocolate
- NOTE: I like to use mushroom powders because mushrooms are so good for the pups, especially those with cancer, chronic enteropathy, etc
- Fillings
- 100% peanut butter (you can use low fat peanut butter for pups with tummy problems, I found a powdered low fat peanut butter on Amazon)
- Pumpkin
- Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries...frozen works better
- Ground turkey/beef gently cooked or raw
- You can also skip the fillings for a solid "chocolate"
Instructions
- Heat broth/tea (slightly hot works better to dissolve the beef gelatin)
- Add 1/2 tsp of coloring per cup (you can divide the liquid into 1/2 cup or 1/4 cup if you want multiple shades of chocolate, just adjust the amount of coloring down to match)
- Another option is to add 1/4 tsp of the peanut butter to the liquid and stir to "dissolve" before adding gelatin (this helps some picky eaters)
- Add 3 tablespoons of beef gelatin to 1 cup of water 1 tbs at a time stirring to dissolve (if you divided into 1/2 or 1/4 adjust the beef gelatin down accordingly)
- Spoon mixed gelitan liquid into mold covering about 1/4 to 1/3 of the bottom (fill mold if not using a filling)
- Place in fridge for approx 10 - 15 minutes to let gelatin start to set (this keeps filling from sinking to the "top")
- Take mold out of fridge
- Add "filling" approx 1/3 of mold keeping filling to middle to leave room for the liquid gelatin to fill in the sides and bottom... you can mix fillings or do one per candy...
- Spoon gelatin in each mold to fill up, and cover, fillings
- Place molds into fridge for 3 hours
- Take molds out and gently pop the candy out...be careful because depending on the filling they may be fragile at the top
Now let the pups enjoy their box of chocolates, but just like us spread them out over a few days ππΎπ
