11/16/25
- She started AnimalBiome FMT capsules on 11/11/25 (LSU didn’t have their capsules ready yet). I’m hoping these, along with the diet, will help jumpstart her hiranonis π€
- She’s off Visbiome…still taking the DoggieBiome GMT.
- She’s acting like a normal dog…no symptoms at all!!
- We’ll get another GI Panel to see if we can start adding some fat to her diet, but that may neeed to wait on the hiranonis since it’s responsible for converting primary bile to secondary bile which is key to fat digestion
- Will probably need 2-3 months of FMT…but we’ll see in a couple of weeks
10/7/25
- Her dysbiosis has improved with diet onlyπ. She is now testing 6 out of 7 good bacteria populated (she was 1 out of 7…she is still missing hiranonis so we’ll start FMT capsules from LSU next week to hopefully increase that) and her pancreatitis is much improved…we’ll test again in a month to make sure the values are not rising again…
8/23/25
- Last week we started her on a B Complex at the suggestion of her nutritionist...added an additional 500 mcg of B12 since the B Complex only had 100 mcg...
- The vitamins, along with diet, seem to be the trick!
- She's been off GastroElm and ginger for a week, Visbiome only with supper, DoggieBiome with vitamins at breakfast
- No lip smaking or gulping!!! It's been a long time since she's been able to be off GastroElm with no lip smacking and gulping !!
8/10/25
- She had been doing good, very little symptoms, but still had anxiety when I would go next door and seemed to be getting up more at night, so I had another GI Panel done and her B9 was low again...
- When we switched diets the new one didn't have near the amount of veggies she was getting before so I suspect that contributed to it
- We started her on a B Complex with a lower B12 than the Nutramax Colbaquin had, and added more B9 veggies to her diet, asparagus and broccoli...
- Since starting the additional veggies and the B Complex she's calmer, doesn't whine when I go next door, and is sleeping through the night
- I've already been able to start decreasing her ginger and GastroElm
- The goal is to get her off both
7/21/25
- Started her on Visbiome Vet Advanced GI Care on 6/16/25 and the difference is amazing... it helped with her anxiety and she's been sleeping through the night (with one or two blips) since...
6/2/25
- Breaking her 2 meals into 3, breakfast lunch & supper
- Per Cat Lane dogs with gastro issues need to eat multiple small meals, so 3 or 4 a day
5/23/25
- Took her off curcumin, boswellia, chaga/reishi mushroom combo and 5 Defenders per Cat Lane a week ago...she's been sleeping like a baby for a week!! Cat had said these were hard on the upper GI tract...hopefully this will help her healing
- Started her new low fat diet from Cat Lane this morning...it's a diet built on foods needed then fill in holes with individual vitamin and/or mineral supplements rather than using a multi vitamin mineral supplement that restricts the way you can construct a diet...
- Her GI panel on 5/13/35 from TAMU came back cTLI >50 and cPLI =107...Dr Buono suspect the lipase cPLI should be higher....we are doing another GI Panrl on June 5 anyway to check how changes are working so hopefully well see cPLI stay down but also cTLI drop below 50 π€
5/15/25
- Started working with Cat Lane The Possible Canine a canine herbalist and nutritionist... She will provide therapeutic diets and herbs to help with a deep healing
- I'm really excited about this, and with the P. Hiranonis trial at LSU in 2-3 months, I'm hopeful that Miss Daisy Jane will have her chronic medical conditions resolved π€πΎπΌπ
5/5/25
- Her fecal FMT transplant didn’t work and the stress of the appointments caused her pancreatitis (lipase) to increase π’
- Sooo… we got a protocol from Rita Hogan (Canine Herbalist) to decrease lipase (GastroElm plus Oak Phytoembryonic Therapy)
- Dr Buono (LSU Internal Medicine) is seeing if he can get hiranonis capsules from TAMU to help with her dysbiosis since that is the one bacteria that we can’t get to populate… if not we’ll try Legacy Biome which is another FMT source…
- She’s still symptom free but my goal is no dysbosis and no pancreatitis because I know they can both cause other problems π’
3/28/25
- Her lipase dropped from 1,003 to 794! That almost as big a drop in 5 weeks as it was over 3 months! Rita Hogan said it's what we're looking for and the milk thistle, marshmallow root are working...we will add dandelion root slowly
- Her dysbios index rose almost a point π’ it's mainly still the Peptacetobacter hiranonis that is basically non-existent...it is responsible for converting primary bile to secondary bile which is key for digestion...
- So we are doing 3 enema FMTs...the first one was today...the goal is this starts recolonizing the Peptacetobacter hiranonis and if so that it sticks...π€
- Her B9/B12 absorption issues have been resolved π
- She's having tummy issues at night...hopefully that means the FMT is taking hold...will start DoggieBiome GMP 2 x day and slippery elm twice a night if needed...hopefully the GMP will help and she won't need the extra slippery elm
3/21/25
- Still waiting on test results from LSU
- Stopped digestive enzymes on 3/13/15
- Started her on 3 meals a day, 7:30 am, 1:30 pm and 7:30 pm on 3/15/25
- Don't know if it's stopping the digestive enzymes or 3 meals but she's sleeping through the night consistently and does not have any gastro symptoms!
3/11/25
- She had some tummy issues over night and threw up a little blood in the morning...luckily we had our appointment with LSU today ... I had quit the marshmallow root.,.
- They said she probably had a small attack of pancreatitis so we are gonna keep her on marshmallow root twice a day going forward...along with the ginger for nausea and gas
- Started fulvic acid on 2/16/25 will continue for 12 weeks
- Will stay on milk thistle for up to 7 more months
- Will get results of dysbios test and pancreatic levels and B12/B9 in approx two weeks
- May need another round of FMT capsules, or rectal transplant
- If lipase levels are still high I will work with Rita Hogan to get an herbal "prescription" to help lower her lipase and hopefully decrease chances of disease high lipase could cause diabetes, pancreas disease, etc)
3/8/2025
- Stopped B9 on 2/22/25 and she has no symptoms!!
- Also stopped colostrum
- We have an appointment with LSU Internal Medicine on 3/11/25 to recheck dysbios index, pancreatic levels and B12/B9
- After 3rd round of FMT pills her dysbiosis has gone from 4.7 to 2.2 (goal is 0) we're adding psyllium husks for a month to see if that soluble fiber that may help with the Microbiome deficiencies...
- Her lipase (pancreatitis) is still high so we're staying with the lowest fat diet, doing Assisi Loop once a day for a month
- I also added Tremella mushroom powder to her other mushrooms since it has some demulcent properties which help and heal the gut lining and decrease intestinal permeability
- We go back in a month to recheck dysbios and may need another round of FMT...we will also recheck her pancreas levels
Dysbiosis defined yes I'm a nerd and need to understand what's going on...an unbalanced Microbiome (dysbiosis) can lead to diseases like cancer ...
Chronic enteropathy is the currently preferred term to describe what was previously referred to as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in veterinary medicine

History
Daisy Jane had a very nasty bout of HGE (Hemmoragic Gastroenteritis) in late March 2022. It occurred a day after surgery to remove 3 lumps that lucky turned out to be benign.
- She was given Metronidazole which cleared the bloody diarrhea.
- She seemed to be ok but in May, after an unsuccessful attempt to introduce a new brother, she had more bloody diahrea and was given Metronidazole again.
- We don't know if the March 2022 bout of HGE caused gastrointestinal damage but it is suspected something is going on...
- She also had a B9 and B12 deficiency
- She was put on B9 and B12 supplements and we were told she would need probiotics for life
She continued to have gastrointestinal issues that I treated with the following supplements May 2022 - Jan 2024... she did not have any more bloody diarrhea and gastrointestinal issues were pretty much under control but still had gulping, lip smacking, and some possible pancreatic/spleen/gall bladder inflammation (unknown until Oct 2024)
- Probiotics (Recommended by LSU Internal Medicine)
- Visbiome
- Proviable
- Rx Biotic
- I added Four Leaf Rover Protect which has s. Boulardii but was told she didn't need it
- Mushrooms
- Reishi and Lions Mane for calming (helps with the anxiety which can trigger the bloody diarrhea)
- Lions Mane and Chaga for digestive support
- 5 Defenders because extra immune and anti inflammatory support can't hurt
- Goats milk colostrum which helps establish a healthy gut by coating the intestines
- GastroElm - A combination of the following powders which all coat and soothe the digestional tract...a tip this may cause absorption problems so give a minimum of 2 hours before and/or after medication/supplements
- Slippery Elm
- Dandelion Root
- Marshmallow Root
- Milk Thistle
- Diet
- I make her food so I was able to tweak with it to see what would help decrease the gastrointestinal issues
- After 2 years and a lot of research I had a nutritionist develop a diet for her...it was heavy sweet potato...it worked for a bit but like every other diet she started having gastro issues
- LSU Internal Medicine said there was nothing wrong with her so I started my research..
January 2024 through current
- Since the diet didn't work I decided to try FMT (fecal matter transplant)
- I found AnimalBiome and did a Gut Microbiome Health Test (send in poop sample)
- Based on the results we decided to do the FMT (AnimalBiome has great customer support!!)
- We did FMT for 60 days
- Also added plant based digestive enzymes
- She improved during that time and at the end of the 60 days we decided to wait 6 months to test again
- She was able to eat her diet again
- I played with doing a 50% high sweet potato/50% Forever Dog Life diet (high meat) and she did great on it!!
- We got a new diet which was more "normal" meat to sweet potato ratio
- Late summer LSU hired a new Internal Medicine vet who came from TAMU, so I decided to make Daisy Jane an appointment to run some tests and see if we could get her off B12/B9 and/or probiotics
- I had seen where long term probiotics could cause gastrointestinal issues
- Also her B12 was high which the vets weren't concerned about but my research showed could be a problem
- So we got our appointment, spent a lot of time with the new vet and got a lot of information...
- She did have high lapise along with high B12, and ultrasound showed "reactive" pancreas and spleen
- She had a episode of bloody diarrhea after the LSU visit...once I got food and supplements in her it resolved
- We changed her diet to very low fat (the benefits of homemade diets)
- I also got an Assisi Loop to use on her tummy area to help reduce inflammation in her pancreas and spleen
- Between the low fat diet and the Assisi Loop she is finally symptom free!
- We did a dysbios test through TAMU (another poop test) and that came back with an index of 4 which is still out of balance
- So we decided to do another round of AnimalBiome FMT and rerun the TAMU test in Jan 2025
- We did surgery to remove some lumps and with prep she didn't have any gastrointestinal issues after, I did prep with GMP morning & night, GastroElm mid-morning and night, calming chews morning and night for 3 days prior and 3 days after...also had a small bowl of food with the key supplements ready for when she came out of anesthesia
