When Is It Time? π’ππ
There is no one answer to this question.
Each case is different…each person has different goals for their pup.
Here are some resources that will hopefully help when it comes time to starting to consider that dreaded “Is it time?”
Quotes from others who have made that difficult decision:
- One week too early is better than one day too late”
- “Roscoe looked into my eyes and said “Mom I can’t go anymore” and I knew he was tired and it wasn’t going to get better… so I gave him the gift of setting him free”
- “Moe's ultrasound showed that the growth in his bladder started to fuse so it was a matter of limited time before we had to lift Moe to Heaven. We decided to let Moe go with dignity and without any suffering. "He went wagging his tail, spoiled with a bunch of treats he would never eat surrounded by his mama and papa. He went peacefully in our arms! “
- “… I promised him that I would look after him the best I could through this journey, and when bad days start outnumbering the good days to the point he just didn't enjoy the things he always did, the time had come. The focus should not be "how long we can stay on the journey", but rather mom and dad being receptive to pup's quality of life - comfort, enjoyment, well-being. In my Max's case, he had always filled the role as the family self-appointed "security detail". It was his job. When the time was close, he told us in no uncertain terms he wasn't able to do his job well anymore and I do believe this tormented him. We comforted him, hugged and thanked him for his service, and told him that it was OK... Please do what you do for pup considering their well-being first and foremost.
